Kotoko have apologized for their conduct in Friday’s President’s Cup defeat to Chelsea.
The Porcupine Warriors unceremoniously left the field of play after being dealt a 9-8 penalty blow by the Premier League Champions before the eyes of Ghana’s vice President John Mahama and other dignitaries.
They failed to come-out for the medal and trophy presentation in protest of referee Awal Mohammed who ordered a retake of two of Chelsea’s missed kicks which they converted on the second time of asking.
“On behalf of the Kotoko family, I would like to express our deepest remorse for our conduct on Friday,” Director of the club Jerry Asare told Hot FM.
“I have phoned the vice President to personally apologise to him under the directives of Executive Chairman K.K Sarpong who is currently not in the country.”
Jerry Asare however urged authorities and organizers of such games to select a fit referee to officiate matches of such magnitude to avoid problems.
“I am not going to justify our act but the referee on the day was clearly incompetent.
“I suggests we use some of our retired competent referee’s on these occasions to ensure such problems are not encountered in future,” he added.
