Four individuals have been arrested by the Eastern North Police for committing various offenses during this year’s Kwahu Easter celebrations.
Thousands of revelers from across Ghana and beyond thronged the Kwahu area to participate in the popular Easter festivities.
However, despite repeated warnings from security agencies for participants to remain law-abiding, some individuals flouted the rules and were apprehended.
Speaking on Adom FM with Baffuor Owiredu Amoh, Eastern North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Kwadwo Asante, confirmed the arrests and said the suspects, including one female, are currently in custody.
“Four individuals have been arrested for failing to comply with police directives. Some attempted to steal from patrons during the festivities,” he stated.
Giving details on the offenses, DCOP Asante said one person was arrested for snatching a phone, another for using electric shock devices on participants while forcibly collecting their belongings, and a third was found in possession of cannabis-laced toffee, popularly known as “wee toffee.”
He noted that investigations are ongoing and the suspects may be arraigned before court on Tuesday if necessary.
DCOP Asante also used the opportunity to caution remaining celebrants to stay within the bounds of the law as the celebrations continue.
He added that the police would assess their security operations to address any lapses and ensure the safety of all visitors enjoying the Easter festivities on the Kwahu mountains.
