Retired Ghanaian surgeon and poet, Professor Ladè Wosornu has been announced as one of the six facilitators of the Kwame Nkrumah Writers’ Workshop 2019. The others include, novelist Elizabeth-Irene Baitie, the author of ‘Of Women and Frogs’, Bisi Adjapon and publishing consultant, Woeli Dekutsey. Director of the Ama Ata Aidoo Centre for Creative Writing, Nana Sika Achampong, would facilitate the drama component of the course. The Accra International Book Festival (AIBF) disclosed this in a press statement on Tuesday. With varying background, the facilitators are expected to take the 15 shortlisted applicants through the two-day free course aimed at honing their writing skills. The face-to-face writing adventure would take place from October 24 to 25 at the University of Ghana, Legon, for the selected writers. The Kwame Nkrumah Writers’ Workshop 2019 is open to all persons who are interested in writing thrillers, satire, memoir, Y/A (young adult), poetry, creative non-fiction, literary fiction or children’s literature. The six facilitators would each handle different components of the training programme. Novelists, Elizabeth-Irene Baitie and Bisi Adjapon would facilitate the fiction component of the writers’ workshop, while poet Professor Wosornu would handle the poetry component. The publishing component of the free course would jointly be handled by publishing consultant, Woeli Dekutsey and Osborne Tetteh of Hetura Books. This year’s Accra International Book Festival coincides with the 400th-Anniversary of the Transatlantic Slave Trade that robbed Africa of its human resources. The Book Festival would bring together writers of African descent from all over the world to take part in conversations, debates, workshops, and performances to share their experiences about the dream of our forbearers. The Accra International Book Festival would be held from October 24-27, 2019, at the University of Ghana, Legon.
