The Minister of Transport, Collins Dauda says a loan agreement to provide funds for the reactivation of the existing rail network will soon be placed before cabinet for consideration.
According to him, the project should result in a major transformation of the road-transport-dominated sector which is over-burdened because of the virtual collapse of the rail industry particularly the Accra-Nsawam and Kumasi lines.
Collins Dauda would however not disclose details of the loan agreement.
He said once cabinet approves the facility, “we will proceed to have the loan agreement ratified by Parliament, then we will access the facility and go through the procurement process of getting contractors to start working on the railway network.”
Alhaji Dauda believes a functioning railway system will help decongest the country’s roads and reduce accidents.
