A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern region Eric Tetteh has urged the National Chairman of the party Peter Mac Manu to resign and to save the party from breaking up.He said the conduct of the Chairman did not promote the interest of the NPP.Speaking to ASEMPA NEWS, Mr. Tetteh who is the Yilo Krobo Constituency Organizer said there was no advanced preparation towards the recently held Jirapa by-election as has been the case whenever there was a by-election.Mr Tetteh also accused the National Chairman of not taking much interest in the Jirapa by-election adding, that lack of commitment accounted for the NPP’s big loss in the 2008 elections. He claimed, Mac Manu is not on good terms with the General Secretary of the party Nana Ohene Ntow which according to him may be another factor in the party’s inability to secure 50% plus votes in last year’s general elections.Meanwhile the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwaku Kwarteng has urged members and supporters of the party to forward all their grievances to the executives of the party instead of rushing to the media.Reacting to the allegations of Mr Tetteh , Mr. Kwarteng indicated that, it is not true that, poor preparation towards the Jirapa by-election led the party’s loss.According to him, Mr. Mac Manu, General Secretary Ohene Ntow, MPs and other party executives were at Jirapa campaigned feverishly for the seat.Urging members not to wash their dirty linen in public, Mr. Kwarteng told ‘EKOSII SEN’ on ASEMPA FM that the current executives have only eight months to go since a National Conference would be held in December to elect new executives for the party. The Communications Director who did not understand basis of Mr. Tetteh’s call also reminded party members of the Hayman Committee which has been tasked to go round the country to find out the causes of the party’s defeat at last year’s elections.Story by Yaa Asantewaa, Asempa FM
