The Ho Mawuli School on Thursday launched its 60th anniversary with the call on both old and current students to strive for excellence and share the virtues invested in them. It is under the theme "Mawuli School: Living the Dream of the Founding Fathers in Human Capital Development." Mr. Daniel Sidney Kpodo-Tay, an architect and an old student, who made the call, said the purpose of the founding fathers of the school was to train men and women to serve Ghana and Christendom for development and spiritual progress respectively. He said the school was reputed for its outstanding academic records and had produced many professionals contributing to national development. He commended the headmaster and the staff for their selfless dedication in training the "students to live the motto - Head, Heart, Hand - which endowed them with the dignity of labour characterized in pouring of sweat and sometimes tears to achieve excellence". He noted that they were also trained to know Christ whose birth, death and resurrection transformed the world. According to Mr Kpodo-Tay, the schools colours; green and yellow, symbolized the agricultural potentials of Ghana "for that matter the Volta Region and the Volta Lake which was an astounding source of irrigation for farm lands. The Volta Lake is a gold mine, lets take advantage of it for a better Ghana". He stated that the challenges confronting the school included lack of adequate infrastructure which he noted had affected academic work so badly. He told the old boys and girls to continue to offer financial assistance to the school. Rev. Frank Kwame, Board Chairman of the school, charged the old students to add to the gains of the school through their contribution in cash or in kind. He asked to old student to contribute in various ways to help the school train students who are intellectually capable of contributing effectively towards the development. Nana Mprah Besemuna, Krachiwura, an old student, who chaired the event, said the school would be judged not on its laurels of yesteryears but its achievements of today. He called on all both old and current students to uphold the dream of the founding fathers of the school. There was an appeal for funds in aid of a modern dormitory that would have a library and other facilities to enhance learning activities. Source: GNA
