As the digital age continues its relentless march forward, Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerges not merely as a technological marvel but as a beacon of hope for crafting a sustainable and healthy nation.
This will be fully harnessed at the twelfth edition of the annual Medical Knowledge Fiesta (MKF) organized by the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) in collaboration with Ghana Physicians and Surgeons’ Foundation (North America) and Africa Partners Medical (USA).
Employing the theme: “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Build a Sustainable and Healthy Nation; the Role of the Health Professional”; the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons hopes to engage and share knowledge with its members on this landscape.
The three-day conference starting on September 25th 2023, intends to take participants on a journey into the profound interplay between AI and the healthcare industry, highlighting the role of healthcare leads in harnessing this power to shape a nation.
The conference will run ten workshops across various disciplines. Some of these include understanding the role of customer service in healthcare, exploring the cutting-edge realm of virtual reality (VR) in medical education, learning the fundamental techniques of basic life-saving interventions, and exploring the diverse landscape of medical specialties and sub-specialties.
Additionally, a Basic AI tools workshop will explore the practical implementation of AI tools that assist healthcare professionals in diagnosing, monitoring, and making informed decisions to ultimately improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
The knowledge festival will have on display several research posters and multiple tracks of oral presentations as well as panel discussions and plenary talks spanning Artificial Intelligence, Obstetricians and Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Public health, Global Health, and One Health.
Over the past twelve years, the Medical knowledge fiesta has had great impact.
Dr Henry Lawson, the Acting Rector and first chairperson of the MKF committee was glad about the response of Ghanaian health practitioners towards the MKF.
“To have Ghanaians wanting to own the program and give you abstracts and present, that was very encouraging,” he said.
Organizing, supervising specialist trading, and promoting continuous professional development in medicine, surgery and related disciplines through the Medical Knowledge Fiesta contributes to fulfilling the mandate of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
This year’ MKF is being organized by a well versed team. Dr Keziah Malm is the Chair of the eight member local committee. Other members include Dr Gabriel Ganyaglo; Dr Lebene Fiakpornoo; Dr Henry Lawson; Dr Joseph Bonney; Dr Akua Boakyewaa Konadu; Dr George Bediako Nketsiah; and Mrs Jocelyn Ayernor.
The GCPS also has Foundation Planning Committee made up of Dr Gabriel Asumeng, Dr Nii Koney, Dr Francisca Abanyie, and Ms. Ellen Horne.
