President Mills has arrived in the Upper East Regional capital Bolgatanga at the start of his one-week tour of the three Northern Regions.
Joy News' Seth Kwame Boateng reports of enthusiastic crowds cheering as the president entered the town.
Residents said they were overjoyed because since becoming president, Prof. Mills had consistently visited the region.
Dressed in mainly NDC regalia, the residents sang and danced and cheered, reports Seth.
The president will be inspecting some ongoing development projects in the region.
During his visit the President will also hold meetings with executive of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region.
The president is accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Mr Henry Martey Neuman, Defence Minister, General Henry Smith and other top government officials.
The residents of Bolga say they expect the president to announce plans to provide the people with more development projects especially this year being the president's professed action year.
The president's first port of call was the Bolgatanga Regional House of Chiefs where he addressed the 17 paramount chiefs.
He is also expected to cut the sod for construction of a sports complex in the Bolga municipality.
