The Minerals Commission is on a collision course with the Interior Ministry for giving small scale mining firm, Hansol Mining, approval to bring in expatriate workers.
The national security and the immigration service last month undertook an exercise to clamp down on foreign illegal miners operating in some parts of the country.
A registered small scale mining company Hansol had 26 of its Chinese workers arrested and deported but the chief executive of the company Bernard Antwi-Bosiako challenged the exercise insisting his workers had legitimate permits to stay and work in the country.
Principal Officer with the Minerals Commission, Jerry Ahadzi, told Joy News the Interior Ministry had no business meddling in mining matters.
“In terms of mining, the Minerals Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources are in charge, so any other body that will go and approve that somebody should work in the mining industry is wrong”, he said.
