The Central Regional Minister Ama Benyiwa Doe has denied media reports suggesting that a motorcade in president Mills’ convoy knocked down and crippled a taxi driver.The Searchlight news paper had early on reported that Richard Kofi Dodoo was knocked down by Mills’ convoy in the latter’s last visit to Cape Coast, but the report was denied by pro-government newspapers.The Saturday, May 15, 2010 edition of the Daily Guide also reports of threats by the victim of the said accident to take government to court if it reneged on its responsibility of taking care of him.But government has since denied the claims.The Central Regional Minister said the claim is unfounded and a fruitless attempt by critics to cast the president in bad light.She explained that the victim was indeed knocked down by a private motor rider and not the president’s convoy as he would have the world to believe.Speaking to Joy FM’s Central Regional Correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko, the Minister advised the victim to desist from allowing himself to be used for propaganda purposes.She said the fact that the accident coincided with the visit of the president should not be misconstrued that it was the convoy that knocked down the victim.She said the Regional Security Council is aware of the incident and has referred the case to the police for further investigations.She assured the victim of financial support from the Regional Coordinating Council as it has been doing.Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
