The Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (M.T.T.U) of the Ghana Police Service will from Monday, June 30th 2008, embark on a two week exercise nationwide to check advance warning triangles and First Aid boxes in vehicles. Commander of the M.T.T.U, A.C.P Daniel Avorgah disclosed that the exercise is to ensure that broken-down vehicles are not left on the roads without any signals to on-coming ones. According to A.C.P Avorgah, most fatalities on the roads are due to the unavailability of signals indicating to an approaching vehicle of danger. The M.T.T.U Commander revealed this in an interview with Asempa News’ Jerry Tsatro Mordy. He said the Police will also inspect First Aid boxes in both private and commercial vehicles across the country. He said a First Aid box must contain drugs that are permitted to be sold off the counter, for the treatment of aches, pains and minor injuries during accidents. According to him, the unavailability of First Aid in most vehicles, is partly blameable for loss of lives during fatalities on the road. He noted that such treatments could help save lives of passengers involved in accidents before they are sent to hospitals.
