Afrobeat artiste, Kelvyn Boy, says he produces songs that address diverse issues related to his fans and the society.
According to him, as an artiste, he takes into consideration his fans who are all of different temperaments, conducts and attitudes with different tastes.
In an interview with Black I on Adom FM’s Work and Happiness, Kelvyn Boy explained that these differences in his audience informs the direction his songs should go. He added it makes his songs more relatable to his fans.
The former Burniton Music Group signee pointed out ‘Loko’, ‘Coffee’ and ‘Yawa No Dey’ are some of the songs he believes focused on some issues that are prominent in the society.
“Take my song, Coffee, honestly speaking I was talking about sex in that song. I laid emphasis on lovemaking in another way. I wish this song will be played whenever sex education is observed in schools,” he expressed.
Kelvyn Boy said that his ‘Loko’ song featuring Medikal was a love letter to his fans who are into some kind of hard drugs. He stated that he did not want them to feel left out.
“There was a portion of the song I kept saying ‘cannabis make them Loko’. I was actually referring to the hard drug cannabis,” he added.
When asked whether the song was aimed at aiding the call for legalisation of Indian hemp (wee), he stated that the song was not in line to support the appeal.
The artiste dismissed rumours that he was taking a hit at an enemy (in the industry) with his song ‘Yawa No Dey’ featuring rapper M.anifest.
Kelvyn Boy explained that he felt most of his fans have gone through ordeals where they have been looked down on or been discouraged from pursuing a dream hence he sought to lift up their spirits.
“I sought to empower them to work hard and shame their enemies. This song is doing so well because at least game boys are using it in their social media posts when they are flaunting their assets,” he added.
