Former First Lady and President of the 31st December Women’s Movement, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings left Accra on Saturday for the United States to attend the Clinton Global Initiative Annual meeting taking place in New York between September 20 and 23. Her participation is at the invitation of former American President Bill Clinton, following the recognition of her sterling role in women empowerment in Ghana. Ranked the number one conference for Chief Executive Officers in January 2010, the Clinton Global Initiative 2010 meeting will focus on Empowering Girls and Women, Strengthening Market-based Solutions, Enhancing Access to Modern Technology and Harnessing Human Potential. Nana Konadu who is also Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will contribute to sub topics such as Education, Empowering Girls and Women, the Key to Women’s Economic Empowerment and Girls: From Education to Economic Empowerment. Others include Harnessing Human Potential, Democratising Education: The Key to Global Economic Growth, Enhancing Access to Modern Technology, Democracy and Voice: Technology for Citizen Empowerment and Human Rights as well as Wiring Communities for Education and Development. The former First Lady will also take part in a special session dubbed “Meeting of the Minds” to be telecast on CNBC on the topic The Future of the Global Economy: Investing in Human Capital. Her programme climaxes with her participation in the Clinton Global Citizen Awards, which was established in 2007 to recognize extraordinary individuals who have demonstrated visionary leadership in solving pressing global challenges. Through their work, these citizens have proven that diverse sectors of society including philanthropic, public service, corporate, and civic organizations can work together successfully to implement and devise solutions that effect positive, lasting social change.
