The National Progressive Association of Teachers (NAPTA) has condemned the demotion and transfer of a head teacher for commenting on the low enrolment during the start of the new educational reform.
"We totally condemn the demotion of the head teacher", Mr Daniel Obodai, Public Relations Officer of NAPTA told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a telephone interview on Wednesday.
Mr Obodai said NAPTA had learnt that teachers had been cautioned against speaking to journalists on the implementation of the new educational reform.
He indicated that "the success and failure of the reform depended greatly on teachers and therefore authorities should allow them to comment on the lapses that need correction".
Mr Obodai appealed with the government not to politicise the new reform, as doing so would obstruct the progress of the educational sector.
Miss Helena Abrokwa, Head teacher of Padmore Street Primary One School in Tema had in a letter signed by Mrs Lucy Kwapong, Tema Municipal Director of Education been demoted and transferred to teach at the Batsonaa Primary School for allegedly speaking to journalists on the low enrolment of pupils in her school on 'My First Day At School'.
