The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has interdicted five officers of its Customs Division with immediate effect pending the outcome of an internal investigation into alleged procedural breaches.

In a statement, the Authority's management said the action follows preliminary findings from an enforcement operation conducted on February 18, 2026. The operation involved a consignment of transit cargo declared for onward movement to Niger.

According to the GRA, the exercise uncovered discrepancies in documentation and compliance with established transit procedures. The findings triggered what the Authority described as a detailed internal review.

“Management of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has, with immediate effect, interdicted five (5) officers of the Customs Division pending the outcome of an internal investigation,” the statement said.

It explained that “the decision follows preliminary findings arising from an enforcement operation conducted on February 18, 2026, involving a consignment of transit cargo declared for onward movement to Niger.”

The GRA noted that “the operation revealed discrepancies in documentation and compliance with established transit procedures, prompting a detailed internal review.”

Initial assessments, the Authority said, point to possible breaches that require further scrutiny.

“Initial assessments indicate potential procedural breaches requiring further independent and comprehensive examination,” the statement added.

The investigation is expected to establish the full facts surrounding the transaction, including the level of involvement of any officers found culpable.

“The investigation will determine the full facts, including the extent of any individual involvement and departures from established Customs protocols,” it stated.

Management indicated that the scope of the probe could widen if necessary.

“Additional officers may be invited to assist with the investigation where necessary and upon conclusion of the process, appropriate administrative action will be taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.”

The GRA assured stakeholders and the general public that the interdictions underscore its commitment to safeguarding the country’s financial interests.

The Authority reaffirmed its stance on professionalism and accountability in revenue mobilisation and enforcement.

The interdictions take effect immediately as the internal investigation proceeds.
