Some NDC supporters in Europe are excited about the decision of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to contest the flagbearership position of the party.
A statement issued on behalf of the group hailed persons like Dela Cofie, Ransford Vanni Amoah, SaCut Etego, Michael Teye Nyaunu, Clement Sangaparee, Ekow Spio Garbrah and many footsoldiers spearheading what they call "a wind of change which is about to blow in the party."
The statement claimed that these people have decided not to exchange their conscience for bread but rather remain loyal to the history and ideals of the party.
“We also welcome the call by the NDC UK and Ireland Chairman Mr. Horace Nii Ankrah that there must be a contest. It is an acknowledgment of the change that we are clamouring for,” the statement said.
The statement signed by Dr. Emmanuel Kankam Boadu, Coordinator, said “the current state which the party finds itself in is a failure by President John Evans Atta Mills to promote and appreciate the ideals and policies of the party and his betrayal of the ideals of May 15th, June 4th and 31st December on which the party was built on.”
“Our party has now been hijacked by complete strangers; the likes of President Mills himself, Kwabena Duffuor, Ato Ahwoi, Totobi Quakyi, Fiifi Kwetey, P.V. Obeng, Allotey Jacobs and others who sat with us and pretended they were NDC but are now exposed as members of the Convention Peoples Party, agents and defectors from the New Patriotic Party like Okudzeto Ablakwa, Omane Boamah, Kakra Essamuah and many others who are now using the party as a vehicle to amass wealth and to sow seeds of mistrust and confusion about Rawlings and Nana Konadu around the country.
"Today we see our founder, Ex President Jerry John Rawlings advice for the party and President Mills to listen to the people and, investigate punish corruption in the past administration fall on deaf ears. What we see is the constant glorification of Nkrumah and the pursuing of Pro CPP ideals, Nkrumah here, Nkrumah there, Nkrumah everywhere. The founder is being treated as a slave in his own party, a party he has given his life for. This is the highest and ultimate betrayal," the statement said.
The statement called on all those who believe in Ex-President Rawlings and respect the ideals of June 4th and 31st December to stand firm and rally round Rawlings and his ideals.
They appealed to delegates and party officials not to allow offers of positions, money, promises of contracts to bribe their conscience.
It urged all NDC members in the diaspora to join hands with cadres back home to take back the party from those it termed “strangers and their stooges,” saying “Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings is the most qualified person to rescue our party from collapsing and losing its grassroot values.”
