Contrary to speculations that the Blackstar Experience idea being mooted by the National Democratic Congress is a move to submerge the Beyond the Return initiative if they win power, NDC's creative arts lead, Rex Omar has said it will rather be under their flagship programme.
According to Rex Omar who spoke on Joy FM's Manifesto Debate on Creative Economy, the Blackstar Experience is the brand name for a year-long celebration of culture, tourism and art.
"Our opponents were saying they have done something like Year of Return and December in GH. Don't worry, we are not going to destroy it. We are looking at the bigger picture so all of them will be part and under the Blackstar Experience," he said while presenting the party's policy ideas.
National Democratic Congress (NDC), envisions a chapter for the creative arts viewed within the 24- Hour Economy in Resetting Ghana under the banner of "THE BLACK STAR EXPERIENCE“.
This vision aims to harness the dynamic energy of the creative economy to propel economic growth, forge sustainable employment pathways and position Ghana as a pre-eminent cultural destination on the world stage.
The NDC indicates that the Black Star Experience will be promoted as Ghana’s flagship programme for Culture, Arts, and Tourism. The new brand will redefine and affirm our Ghanaian identity, increase tourism, attract investments, and create new jobs.
Undertake a year-round celebration in all the major programmes in entertainment, artistic and educational disciplines including the celebration of the following festivals:
- The Pan African Month, Celebrating Heritage, History and Diaspora Engagement
- The Ghana Film, Festival and Awards Month
- Ghana Music World
- Culinary Month
- Architecture, Design, Arts and Crafts
- Fashion and Textiles Month
'Beyond the Return', initiated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is a follow-up project to the 'Year Of Return' Ghana 2019 campaign which commemorated the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the first recorded enslaved Africans in Jamestown Virginia in 1619.
The landmark campaign also celebrated the resilience of the African over the past 400 years and welcomed all people of African origin to return to Africa especially Ghana.
