Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the youth—particularly the large number who were unsuccessful in their recent attempts to enlist in the security services—to remain patient.

He said there would be more opportunities to recruit additional personnel into the security services and urged the youth not to despair, explaining that the services can only recruit a limited number of people at a time.

He explained that the security services cannot recruit simply for recruitment’s sake, as every exercise requires proper logistical planning. As a result, it is not possible for all qualified applicants to be enlisted at once.

Asiedu Nketia was addressing party officials and loyalists on Thursday in the Kpone Katamanso Constituency, where his ongoing post-election national thank-you tour made its next stop.

According to him, the acute shortage of jobs in the country has resulted in many young people pursuing any available job openings. He noted that more than 500,000 individuals applied in the recent police recruitment exercise, although the service could only admit 5,000 recruits.

In his usually jocular manner, Asiedu Nketia remarked that if everyone were recruited into the Police Service, there would be no thieves left for the police to apprehend.

He said that, little by little, recruitment exercises each year would see increased intake, adding that the 5,000 recently enlisted represent only the 2025 recruitment window.

He assured that in October this year, the services would reopen the recruitment window to enlist more personnel.

Asiedu Nketia also noted that in many other countries, governments focus on creating a conducive environment for private businesses to grow, whereas in Ghana, successive governments have often failed to ensure that private enterprises thrive.

He questioned how young people could secure meaningful employment when private businesses are unable to grow, expand, and thrive.

On behalf of the party’s leadership, Asiedu Nketia expressed profound gratitude to constituents for their support and votes that helped the NDC win power.

The Member of Parliament for the Kpone Katamanso Constituency, Joe Tetteh, and Samuel Tetteh, the Municipal Chief Executive for the area, also briefed the party chairman and supporters on development needs, challenges, and progress on various infrastructure projects in the constituency.
