Nieghbours of a man who was allegedly killed by his wife, Elizabeth Yamoah, and son, Festus Appiah Otoo, have expressed shock at his demise.
Residents of the Lapaz Racecourse suburb of Accra say they believe the incident was an accident.
Police are holding the woman and her son who allegedly beat the 47-year-old man to death.
But some resident of the area who spoke to Joy FM’s Hannah Odame said the suspects are sober people and could not have committed the crime of murder.
They said the deceased was a drunkard who constantly beat his wife and troubled his household.
According to them, on that fateful day, he had gone to drink and upon his return attempted to assault his wife but the son intervene leading to his sudden death.
Elizabeth and her son have since appeared before a court on the charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
The Odorkor Divisional Crime Officer, Superintendent Baffour Apenteng reiterated some of the view expressed by the residents.
He said the deceased’s son picked a quarrel with the father who tried to beat the mother and in the process hit the man with a stick resulting in his death.
Supt. Apenteng said the police were in the process of securing an autopsy report after which the docket on the case will be forwarded to the Attorney-General’s office.
