The Christian Council of Ghana has appealed to politicians, the Electoral Commission, citizens and all stakeholders to conduct themselves in a manner that will promote peace in the country.
According to the Council, the peace of the nation is paramount therefore citizens must do everything to protect it in the upcoming December elections.
"We note with concern the current political atmosphere, especially when we are preparing fro the elections later this year, and with to call on all politicians and their supporters to be circumspect and decorous in their utterances and actions.
"As Faith leaders, we are called to bear witness to our faith and commitment to peace. We, therefore condemn any action that would lead to disruption of peace before, during and after the 2020 elections," a statement from the council said.
Ghana in December is expected to conduct its major elections to elect a President and Members of Parliament.
Ahead of the election the Christian Council is urging the Electoral Commission which is the main body responsible for the affairs of the election, "to engender confidence and trust among all players and continue to remain neutral, fair, honest and transparent in all its actions and decisions."
The Council further urged citizens to partake in the ongoing voter registration exercise peacefully, though some members of the citizenry may not be satisfied with the Supreme court ruling.
The Christian Council also urged security and law enforcement bodies in the country to carry out their duties without fear or favor.
