The National Health Insurance Bill matured into law Sunday, 21 days after it was laid in parliament.
The Act will now empower the health minister to introduce the one time premium at anytime through regulation.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak told Joy News that with the new law, beneficiaries who had difficulties with the scheme don’t have to address their grievances using the courts.
“…Now we’ve been able to establish an independent adjudicating committee that is made up of independent persons and chaired by a retired justice of the superior court. That is going to be hearing people to be giving them an opportunity without necessarily running to court on every little issue.”
