An emergency meeting by the Ga Traditional Council has resolved that the status of Nii Adote Obour II, Sempe Mantse remains unchanged.
A statement signed by Mrs Bernice Bempong, Registrar of the Council made available to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday said the decision was taken at a meeting on September 15, 2008.
The statement said the Council took the decision in pursuit of section 29 (1) of the Chieftaincy Act 2008 (Act 759), which gives "exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine any cause or matter affecting chieftaincy which arises within its area", and section 40 (2) which requires the Judicial Committee of the Council to consider any charges against a chief before deposition.
It said the Council discouraged the practice of arbitrary enstoolment and destoolment without recourse to the due customary and legal procedures as laid down in the Chieftaincy Act.
