The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has released a list of 16 referees to officiate in the 2007 Africa Under-17 Championship scheduled for Lome, Togo.
Conspicuously missing from the list are Ghanaian referees despite their being rated one of the consistent and finest ‘Knights of the Whistle’ on the continent.
This makes Ghana, one of six out of eight participants without a match official in the 14 day competition.
Information gathered by the GNA Sports said the list is made up of eight referees and eight assistant referees.
The selected referees are Pa Bou Sarr (Gambia), Atsoo Kokou (Togo), Nahe Leonard (Cote d'Ivoire), Sidibe Boubacar (Mali), Kaoma Wellington (Zambia), Samir Osman (Egypt), Omgba Zing (Cameroon) and Haimouda Djamel (Algeria).
The assistant referees include Kapou Koffi (Togo), Peter Edibe (Nigeria), Alem Costa (Cape Verde), Fassinou Alex (Benin), Gooding Augustine (Liberia), Mohamed Abdella (Sudan), Quarquori Abdelhak (Morocco) and Manuel Candido (Angola).
Federation of International Football Association’s (FIFA) Alex Kotey was the only Ghanaian who participated in the last edition held in Gambia in 2005.
