The Ministry of Information has described as false, a newspaper publication that President John Evans Atta Mills has instructed his ministers not to take part in the June 4th celebrations.
A statement signed by the Minister for Information, John Tia Akologu said no such directive has been issued, explaining that any Ghanaian including members of the executive who believe in the ideals of June 4th are at liberty to celebrate it.
The statement emphasized that government or state resources will not be spent on the celebrations, noting that the activities marking the June 4th event is being put together by private groups and not the State.
The statement said any claim attributed to unnamed sources that ministers and other appointees have been asked not to participate in June 4th can only be a fabrication.
Myjoyonline on Monday published comments by the Information Minister denying any official government or state participation in the celebrations.
Meanwhile, President John Evans Atta Mills has directed that Ministers, Deputy Ministers and all appointees who do not have any assigned roles at the South Africa World Cup 2010, should not travel to South Africa.
