The Northern Regional Coordinating Council has taken delivery of the first consignment of relief items for those affected by the series of rainstorms that have devastated the region.
The items are made up of 200 bags of rice 200 bags of maize, 800 mats, 200 pieces of plastic plates and cups, 100 boxes of soap, 800 blankets and basins and 800 plastic buckets.
The items were delivered by the National Disaster Management Organisation and would be distributed in eleven district assemblies in the Northern Region that were severely hit by the rainstorm.
The areas include the Tamale metropolis, Walewale, Savelugu, Mion, Daboya, Saboba, Zabzugu, Bunkpurugu/Yunyo, Sagnerigu and Yendi.
More than 10,000 people have been displaced with five reported deaths.
The deaths include four people who were crushed by a tree that fell during the rainstorm.
Northern Regional coordinating director Alhaji Issahaku Alhassan who received the items on behalf of the Regional Minister Bede Zieden was grateful for the support.
