The much-anticipated 2025 edition of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) officially kicks off today, Monday, October 20, igniting a nationwide academic showdown among some of Ghana’s brightest senior high school minds.
The preliminary stage opens with 147 schools locked in intellectual battle, all vying for a coveted place in the next round of this prestigious competition.

This year’s championship features a total of 174 schools, with 27 already earning automatic qualification to the one-eighth stage.

That leaves the remaining schools with everything to fight for in the intense preliminaries scheduled to run from October 20 to 24, 2025.

The opening day features nine thrilling contests, showcasing a diverse mix of schools from across Ghana’s regions:
- Ofori Panin SHS vs Kpando SHS vs Awe SHTS
- Wovenu SHTS vs KNUST SHS vs Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ SHS
- Kwahu Tafo SHS vs Tarkwa SHS vs Edinaman SHS
- Tamale Islamic Science SHS vs Kumasi Wesley Girls’ High School vs Fafraha Community SHS
- O’Reilly SHS vs St. Andrews SHS vs SDA SHS, Bekwai
- Amaniampong SHS vs OLA SHS, Ho vs Juaboso SHS
- Anlo SHS vs Sonrise Christian High School vs Bawku SHTS
- Manya Krobo SHS vs Sogakope SHS vs St. Joseph’s SHS
- Kumasi Academy vs St. Louis SHS vs Bunkpurugu SHTS
Each of these matchups promises not only fierce competition but also moments of scientific brilliance, tactical problem-solving, and the kind of thrilling suspense the NSMQ is known for.

Now in its 31st year, the NSMQ continues to be Ghana’s most celebrated academic competition, aiming to promote science and mathematics education at the senior high school level.

The quiz, organised by Primetime Limited, has grown into a national tradition, uniting students, alumni, and school supporters in a shared celebration of intellectual prowess.
