Information reaching Adomonline from the Northern Region indicates that a Yutong bus with registration number, GC 4921 Z has been involved in an accident on the Yapei-Tamale highway.
The accident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday with the passengers numbering about 40, mainly students who are on vacation and are going home.
One of the passengers, who gave her name as Lizzy told Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Wednesday, that they were on their way to Buipe in the Central Gonja District when the vehicle suddenly veered off the road and knocked down a boy on a bicycle, killing him instantly while some of the passengers sustained injuries.
Lizzy alleged that the accident was the driver’s fault as he was dozing off behind the wheel adding that both the driver and his mate fled the scene after the accident.
She said some of the passengers on the bus had been involved in an accident earlier on their way to Kumasi and were transferred onto the Buipe-bound Yutong.
Lizzy, who complained about a broken knee said she and others who had sustained injuries had not been attended to as there were no paramedics around at the time of the interview adding they were at the mercy of predators in the bush.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), ACP Angwubutoge Awuni said he had instructed the Northern Regional police to go to the aid of the victims.
The Northern Regional Police Command also confirmed the story and said the injured had been taken to the Tamale Government Hospital for treatment.
