The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised Ghanaians to dismiss false prophecies
His call to action was delivered by the Chief of Sewua, Nana Kwaku Amankwa Sarkodie, during the annual prayer gathering on 29 November 2024.
Nana Sarkodie, speaking on behalf of the Asantehene, urged religious leaders to focus on fostering national unity rather than making declarations that could create discord.
He highlighted the importance of collective vigilance in safeguarding the country’s harmony during the critical election period. “Ghanaians must focus on what unites us and ignore divisive and false prophecies,” he stated.
The Asantehene’s message stressed the responsibility of both citizens and spiritual leaders in maintaining a peaceful environment.
He expressed concern about the use of prophecies to align with political parties, warning that such actions could alienate followers who hold diverse political beliefs.
“Some claim to be making prophecies to favour the New Patriotic Party (NPP), while others do so for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). They forget their followers have differing political views,” Nana Sarkodie remarked.
As the election approaches, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged Ghanaians to reject such divisive rhetoric and instead concentrate on unity and shared values.
The annual prayer gathering served as a platform to amplify this message, with special prayers offered for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the NPP.
In a parallel development, schoolchildren in Kumasi took to the streets to advocate for peace, underscoring the need for harmony during the electoral season.
Their peaceful march added to the growing calls for stability and cooperation among all stakeholders as Ghana prepares for its next general elections.
