The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has rejected allegations by the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) that Customs officials breached due process in the recent auctioning of perishable goods at the ports.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 28th August 2025, GRA dismissed as “erroneous” suggestions that importers are granted 60 days to clear perishable consignments.
Citing Section 53(3)(a) of the Customs Act, 2015 (Act 891), the GRA clarified that perishable goods may be disposed of by public auction after 21 days if left unclaimed.

GRA encouraged importers to utilise pre-cargo arrival clearance systems to minimise delays and avoid extra charges.
GRA reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency and strict adherence to the law in all auction processes.
