A Physical Education Instructor of the Anloga Secondary School (ANSECO) in the Keta District of the Volta Region has said that the notion that women who engage in sporting activity risk their ability to procreate has no scientific basis.
She said engaging in physical activity such as athletics or other sports even for a longer period does not in anyway affect the reproductive system of a woman as to prevent one from having babies when she so desires.
Mrs Theodora Kusorgbor said this in an interview with the GNA Sports at the weekend after participating in an eight-kilometer Walk at Tegbi by a cross section of people in the area as part of an awareness creation exercise initiated by the Ministry of Health as part its policy of promoting good health through physical exercise and good nutrition.
She therefore urged the society and parents in particular to encourage their daughters to freely engage in sports and other physical exercises both as a vocation and to build up good health.
"Women still procreate when they are in sports and such negative views need to be brushed aside," Mrs Kusorgbor stated.
Mrs Kusorgbor who is also a member and trainer of the Anlo Social Keep Fit Club also debunked the perceived notion that women who participate in Keep Fit Clubs were morally weak.
She urged women to be confident and get involved in such activities and to join clubs since the healthy benefits to be derived were enormous.
Mrs Kusorgbor said exercises also helped women to manage stress from frustrations and other pressures they undergo.
She commended the good turnout for the Walk and counseled that people should not wait until such scheduled programmes to engage in exercises.Source: GNA
