The management of Plan Ghana, an international child-centered Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), has presented food items worth GH¢18,000 to 10 communities affected by rainstorm in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region. Over 1,300 residents in the district benefited from the donation which included 300 bags of rice, 1,500 sachets of milk powder, 300 sachets of five kilogrammes sugar, 300 gallons of cooking oil and 100 cartons of key soap. It formed part of Plan Ghana's contribution towards relief items to the victims who were displaced due to the flood that caused extensive damage to schools and road infrastructure. The beneficiary communities include Tekyiam, Nsuaem, Ekwamkrom, Anyensuade, Adawukwaa and Jukwa. The rest are Besiadze, Okyereko, Mpota and Panfokrom. Mr George Yorke, Southern Sector Manager of Plan Ghana, presenting the items, called for transparency in its distribution to ensure they reached all the victims. He explained that the affected communities formed part of the 15 communities within which Plan operated in the district. Mr Yorke said after the disaster, management deployed staff to the affected communities to provide temporary nutritional needs to children and constructed make-shift structures to accommodate the displaced victims. He gave the assurance that management would continue to monitor the situation for any necessary assistance. Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah, Gomoa East District Chief Executive, who received the items on behalf of the affected victims, commended the management for the assistance. He said the assembly cherished its relationship with management of Plan Ghana and would endeavour to ensure the sustainability of its projects in the area. Mr Ahunu-Armah said the Rapid Response Team of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) had evacuated the victims to new sites and the assembly had been providing water and other amenities to make life comfortable for them. He assured the management that NADMO officials in the district would distribute the items fairly to ensure all the victims benefited.
