Police have fired warning shots to deter rampaging students of the Takoradi Technical Institute who are incensed with school authorities for allegedly extorting monies from them.
The students claim they have been charged several monies for the provision of hostel facilities, school bus as well as school blocks but none of the facilities have been delivered.
Joy FM’s Western Regional Correspondent, Kweku Owusu Peprah said the angry students, both male and female, Monday morning pelted school authorities with stones and rubbles to register their protest.
They broke louvers, pelted colleague students writing their exams with stones and even attempted to burn the schools’ only bus, Peprah said.
But for the timely intervention of the police the chaotic situation could have been worse, he noted.
The students claim one of their colleagues was hit by a stray bullet, an allegation the district police personnel has dismissed.
Police Chief Mr. Dela Dzante said the injuries sustained by the students were as a result of the stones thrown by students and not from a stray bullet.
The students have been driven out of the school’s premises.
The assistant principal of the school has meanwhile dismissed the claims by the students.
He has however called on the students to be patient as the school authorities resolve some of the challenges.
