Police patrol officers from the Baatsonaa Division on August 4 foiled a robbery near the Klagon-Ashaiman ‘underbridge’, arresting one suspect with gunshot wounds.
A statement issued by the Police said that at about 0320 hours, the patrol team witnessed four armed men on two motorbikes attacking Reuben Ayiku, the complainant, and robbing him of his mobile phone and wallet containing an unspecified amount of money.
The team pursued the suspects and intercepted them at Shalom Spot.
Three escaped, but 23-year-old Francis Debrah, who was wielding a long, sharp knife, refused to surrender.
“The patrol team had to fire in order to disarm Debrah,” the statement said.
He sustained gunshot wounds to his left arm and was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment under guard.
Two Royal motorbikes believed to have been used in the robbery were retrieved.
However, the victim’s phone and money are yet to be recovered.
Police investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
