President John Dramani Mahama has officially commissioned the Sahara LPG Vessel, a landmark development aimed at bolstering Ghana’s energy infrastructure and supporting the nation’s transition to cleaner energy sources.
Describing the event as “more than a ceremonial occasion,” President Mahama emphasised that the commissioning marks “a significant milestone in strengthening the infrastructure that underpins the global liquefied petroleum gas supply chain.”
The President underscored that energy access and the transition to cleaner energy remain defining challenges of the era, highlighting that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) continues to play a pivotal role in addressing these issues.

He stressed the importance of collaboration, noting that the project reflects “the power of strategic partnerships and forward-looking investments aimed at improving energy security for Ghana, West Africa, and the African continent.”

President Mahama added that Ghana, like many of its neighbours, recognises the transformative potential of LPG in driving socio-economic development and expanding access to cleaner energy solutions for its population.

According to the presidency, the commissioning of the Sahara LPG Vessel signals a key step in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its energy sector while embracing sustainable and modern fuel alternatives.
The watercraft is named Asharami Ghana and was commissioned on Thursday, March 12, in South Korea.
