Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang joined staff and colleagues at the presidency to commemorate International Women’s Day, urging renewed commitment to promoting equity for women across workplaces and society.
The event was observed under the theme “From Commitment to Action: Promoting Equity for Every Woman in the Workplace.” It served as both a celebration of the achievements of women and a moment of reflection on the continued efforts required to advance gender equality in Ghana.

In her remarks, the Vice President extended warm wishes to women across the country, noting that women have historically played central roles in sustaining communities and shaping economic life.

According to the presidency, she highlighted the enduring contributions of healers, traders and queen mothers who presided over traditional governance systems, explaining that Ghana’s cultural heritage reflects the long-standing leadership, knowledge and innovation of women.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that addressing contemporary inequalities requires a critical examination of existing systems and structures, alongside deliberate policies and actions to promote equity. She also underscored the importance of mentoring and empowering the next generation of women leaders.

The Vice President paid tribute to women whose work often takes place outside formal institutions, acknowledging those whose “offices” are located in markets, streets and small trading spaces across the country.

According to her, these women remain the backbone of local economies, demonstrating resilience and determination despite the challenging conditions under which they operate.

She further commended women serving within the Presidency for their dedication and leadership, stressing that promoting equity, respect and opportunity for every woman is essential for strengthening governance and advancing sustainable national development.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang concluded by calling on both men and women to work collectively to break down barriers and ensure that every woman has the opportunity to thrive and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s progress.
