Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has had an engagement with Portage Energy, a clean-energy firm that specialises in sustainable waste management, waste-to-energy technology, and the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), as the government explores innovative solutions to Ghana’s growing waste challenges.
The meeting highlighted Portage Energy’s technology-driven approach to transforming waste into energy and cleaner fuel alternatives.
The company shared its capabilities in sustainable waste conversion and presented models designed to align with Ghana’s environmental and economic priorities.
Addressing the delegation, the Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to development partnerships that genuinely support national priorities.

She stressed that Ghana’s current economic and policy environment requires a new type of collaboration, one rooted in transparency, responsibility, and shared value.
“We are looking for partnerships that are truly transparent, respect our national priorities, and ensure that the Ghanaian people are the ultimate beneficiaries.”
She also stated that responsible waste management is essential for a growing economy like Ghana’s.
“Waste management is closely linked to public health, environmental sustainability, industrial development, and the overall appeal of our cities.”
The Vice President further explained, “Any partnership we enter must strengthen our national systems and contribute meaningfully to long-term development. We want solutions that do not just look good on paper but deliver measurable outcomes for the country.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed optimism about the dialogue, describing it as a potentially significant step toward Ghana’s clean-energy ambitions.
“We look forward to more detailed discussions to determine how best to establish a collaboration that is sustainable, technically sound, and beneficial to the people of Ghana.”
The officials of Portage Energy welcomed the government’s focus on transparent, value-driven cooperation and expressed readiness to continue technical discussions.
The Vice President and Portage Energy both agreed to pursue further engagements in the coming weeks to develop frameworks supporting Ghana’s long-term waste-to-energy and sustainability agenda.
