In what some have described as "Instant justice from God," a suspected armed robber was on Monday dawn crushed to death by a speeding vehicle at Hodem on the Accra-Pokuase highway when he charged on a trader in an attempt to snatch her bag containing money meant to pay suppliers of foodstuffs. The trader, Ms Janet Hlovor, was among four female foodstuff traders waiting for their suppliers by the highway. The Amasaman District Police Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) R. C. Tottimeh, who confirmed the incident said the body of the suspected robber yet to be identified, and has been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary, in Accra. ASP Tottimeh told the Spectator that at about 4am on Monday, September 20, this year, four women, Janet Hlovor, Joana Ahovi, Salome Ahovi and Mary Ahovi left their residence to Hodem near the main Nsawam-Accra main road, to purchase foodstuffs that were being brought from the villages. He said the deceased and three others who were hiding in a thicket suddenly attacked the women in an attempt to rob them of their money. The crime officer said sensing danger the women raised an alarm and started running in different directions for safety. He said Janet Hlovor, who was carrying the bag containing her moneys quickly run across the main road but the deceased who attempted to pursue her, was crushed to death in the middle of the road by a speeding passenger bus. The crime officer Said when the other suspected robbers realised what had happened they fled into the bush to escape arrest. When the police later arrived at the scene they found some mobile phones and telephone numbers on the deceased. ASP Tottimeh said when the police tried calling those numbers, the owners refused to pick the calls, even though the calls were going through. He said the police would run security checks to identify the deceased and his accomplices. ASP Tottimeh was however, quick to add that, the police would succeed in that regard only if the phones and telephone numbers, have been duly registered according to the prevailing law.
