The Member of Parliament for Berekum West, Dickson Duah, has charged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the National Sports Authority (NSA) to take vital steps needed to ensure there is no repetition of hooliganism in the country's football in the future.
His comments come following the acts of violence which saw the death of Asante Kotoko fan Francis 'Nana Pooley' Frimpong at the Nana Koromansah II Stadium on February 5.
Pooley met his untimely death as he was stabbed to death in the game involving Nsoatreman and Kotoko in Nsoatre.
Following the incident, there was a similar situation in Elmina over the weekend during the Division One League game between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks which the latter claimed all three points.
Speaking in parliament on Wednesday, Duah, called on the Ghana FA to put in place appropriate measures to deter people who are usually involved in acts of hooliganism.
"I urge the Ghana Football Association and the National Sports Authority to put in place stringent safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future," he said.
"This includes enhanced security at stadiums, strict enforcement of disciplinary actions against violent conduct and also intensified public education on sportsmanship."
He used the opportunity to extend his condolence to the family of the deceased Kotoko fan.
"At this grieving moment, permit me to extend my heartfelt and deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. No family should endure such pain over a football match," he continued.
The league remains suspended as investigations into the incident continue.
The GFA announced an enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocol which includes the appointment of a Safety and Security Officer and the installation of CCTV cameras at various stadia.
