The Trans Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign, spearheaded by former MP and media personality Ras Mubarak, is set to commence on 18 August 2025, embarking on an unprecedented overland journey through 38 African countries.
Endorsed by the government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the initiative seeks to promote African unity and advocate for a visa-free travel policy for all Africans, according to a press release issued by the organisers.
The campaign will see Ras Mubarak and his team traverse the continent by road, visiting key capitals and communities to engage leaders, policymakers, and citizens in dialogue on free movement, tourism, and intra-African cooperation.
“This monumental journey will bring together leaders and citizens across the continent, fostering greater cooperation and understanding,” the statement noted.
Route Across Africa
The expedition will cover the following countries:
Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Namibia, Central African Republic, Chad, Niger, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Ghana.
A Call for African Unity
The organisers say the Trans Africa Tourism and Unity Campaign is designed to create awareness about the benefits of removing travel barriers between African nations, encouraging cultural exchange, and boosting intra-African tourism and trade.
The journey will also highlight Africa’s diverse heritage and shared history, aiming to inspire a new generation of Africans to embrace pan-African ideals.
Further details about the campaign’s itinerary and key events in participating countries are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
