Sunyani SHS were left stunned after Accra High School snatched the One-Eighth stage ticket of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) in the final round, finishing just one point ahead of Ghana SHS, Tamale, and two points ahead of Sunyani SHS.

‎Accra High had started the contest on top with 23 points, but Sunyani SHS soon turned the tables. After drawing level with Ghana SHS, Tamale on 18 points at the end of Round One, Sunyani moved into first place in Round Two and remained there through Round Four.

By the end of Round Four, Sunyani SHS had 31 points and looked set for the ticket, with Accra High on 30 points and Ghana SHS, Tamale on 29 points. But the final round produced a stunning change in the standings.

‎Accra High added three points to move to 33, Ghana SHS, Tamale reached 32 points, while Sunyani SHS finished on 31 points.

The result left Sunyani SHS so disappointed that the team walked out before the final scores were declared.

‎Accra High takes the One-Eighth stage ticket, with seven more slots to be booked on the final day as 21 schools compete for the remaining places.
