An Accra High Court, Human Rights Division on Monday gave a landmark ruling directing the Electoral Commission to implement the Representation of the People’s Amendment Act in the 2020 elections.
The law passed in 2006 is to allow Ghanaians abroad to take part in Ghana’s elections.
However, 11 years after the passage of the law, the EC has failed to implement the law.
Some five Ghanaians living abroad decided to proceed to court with a writ seeking the order of the court for the EC to execute the law.
The court presided over Justice Anthony K. Yeboah ruled in favour of the applicants and directed the EC to take steps to implement the law in the next election in 2020.
