Photos: National Interfaith Memorial Service held in Accra to honour August 6 helicopter crash victims

Ghana came together in solemn remembrance on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as government officials, religious leaders, members of the security services and bereaved families gathered for a National Interfaith Memorial Service to mark one year since the military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished public servants and military personnel.

The memorial, held at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), formed part of a week-long national commemoration of the August 5, 2025 tragedy, one of the country's deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.

President John Dramani Mahama led the nation in paying tribute to the deceased, joined by Vice-President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, ministers of state, Members of Parliament, traditional rulers, the diplomatic corps, senior military officers, religious leaders and relatives of the victims.

The service brought together Christian and Muslim clerics in a shared act of prayer, reflection and remembrance.

The ceremony honoured the memory of eight Ghanaians who lost their lives when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while on an official mission from Accra to Obuasi.
