Reigning MVP of the Division One League, signed for Hearts of Oak on deadline day, made a strong debut against Nigerian Ifeanyi Ubah in a friendly, capped it off with an impeccable league debut against New Edubiase…This was a dream few months for Samudeen Ibrahim.
The scripts were already written that he was going to be the next big thing to have donned the Phobain colours. A schemer whom the club had lacked since the days of Charles Taylor. Someone who could carry the team on his shoulders and win vital points with sheer individual brilliance.
Unfortunately, injuries will not let this talented young man have his way. His debut was in February on matchday 1, and did not feature for the Phobians till matchday 16 in June.
It took time for him to catch much rhythm and Samudeen was the first to admit injuries had hindered his progress.
“I was affected by injuries at the beginning of the season and that really affected my form”.
Just when he was beginning to get into the groove, he lost his mum. Psychologically, that affected him and he had a bad run to the last round of games for the Phobians failing to start in their last 5 games.
The man has been touted for greatness despite his poor first season and Samudeen himself is setting sights on a bigger and better season after some will call an adaptive first year hindered with unfortunate circumstances.
“I am looking forward to put it behind me and move on for next season and I promise to show what I have got,” he added.
It will be in the interest of all Phobians and Ghanaians in general that a gem of his caliber is seen excelling for the benefit of giving the league a better image and a great asset for the national teams.
