Taxi services were scarce in Ho on Wednesday as majority of taxi drivers went queuing for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), slowing down economic activities in the Regional capital with people having to walk long distances to market, offices and homes.
Market women were seen carrying their wares on their heads to and from the Central Market on Wednesday, which is the market day, creating a field day for head porters.
At Kings Filling Station on the Ho-Aflao Highway, a quarter-of-a- kilometre long meandering queue of taxis was formed about three days ago and was moving at a snail’s pace. The filling station was the only place where the product was available in town.
The queue went as far as the frontage of the Volta Regional Hospital and meandered into the road leading to the Nurses Training College. Some drivers who spotted the GNA vented their frustrations at the situation and one of them said “we have been sleeping here over the past three days hoping to buy gas.”
They said they were suffering and appealed to the government to resolve the situation. Some domestic users of the product also formed winding queues and said they had deposited their cylinders at the Station for over a week.
