As the Eighth Parliament of Ghana ends, Speaker Alban Bagbin has advised newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to conduct themselves with caution and responsibility while representing their constituents over the next four years.
During his address at the dissolution of the Eighth Parliament, Mr Bagbin acknowledged MPs who lost their seats in the 2024 general election and commended those who secured re-election.
He extended his well wishes to returning MPs, expressing the hope that their careers would be long and progressive.
“…To those of you who have been privileged to return to the Ninth Parliament, I repeat the prayer I said four years ago. May your career be as long and as progressively as mine has been,” he said.
Mr Bagbin emphasised the importance of accountability, reminding incoming MPs that they would be held accountable to the people in just four short years.
The inauguration of the new MPs is scheduled for January 7, 2025, at midnight in Parliament.
As the country looks to the future, the Speaker’s words serve as a reminder of the significant responsibility that comes with public office.
With the Ninth Parliament set to commence, Ghanaians will be watching closely to see how their elected representatives will work together to drive progress and development.
