SSNIT has given government the first option over the sale of its majority stake in Intercity STC Coaches Limited.
JOY-BUSINESS has learnt SSNIT has made a request to government over plans to sell its 80 percent holdings in the company to a strategic investor.
JOY-BUSINESS has gathered that about 16 firms including both foreign and local entities have applied to take over STC. Sources say the company is now worth about 51 million Ghana cedis.
Government currently has about 20 percent interest in STC. SSNIT took the controlling interest in STC in 2002 after a two-year management contract by Vanef consortium was terminated.
Meanwhile SSNIT says it has reached a firm agreement with Prudential Bank to ensure that STC’s properties at its head office are not auctioned to defray the company’s 7 million Ghana cedi debt.
