It’s time is up for Ghana. And the search for a successful treble in the 7th edition of the African U-17 Championship begins Sunday afternoon for the Black Starlets.
Ghana would kick off the Group B pairings with the opener against Burkina Faso in Kegue with Nigeria playing Eritrea in the other game.
The Black Starlets, silver medallist in the last edition of the competition are seeking to start off the competition on a winning note as they navigate their third title ambitions.
For Ghana coach, Fred Osam Duodu, it’s also an opportunity for him to enter the history books as he tries to win the title back-to-back.
The veteran manager hopes to plot a second successive title after leading the Gambia to their first major continental success in football when the won the African U-17 title at Ghana’s expense.
However, Osam Duodu now leads his home country for a third title challenge.
Though a tricky challenge, Ghana’s team and coach remain confident of completing the simultaneous mission.
Ghana, two-time African and World champions at this level after Sunday’s opener would line up three days later against Eritrea on March 14.
However the Black Starlets would save the best for the last when the clash West African rivals, Nigeria on March 17 in the final Group B game.
The eight-team tournament kicked off on Saturday with host, Togo beating South Africa 2-0 in Group A while the second group game between Gabon and Tunisia ended 0-0.
