The National Communications Authority (NCA) says the sale and operation of Starlink in Ghana is illegal.
Starlink is a satellite-based internet service provider that provides connectivity to underserved areas, as well as competitively priced service in more urbanised areas.
According to the Authority, Starlink has neither been licensed in Ghana nor has any of its equipment been type-approved.

Their operation in Ghana without a license or authorisation from the NCA is thus in direct contradiction with the provisions of Section 3(1) of the Electronic Communications Act 2008, Act 775, the Authority stressed.
“Except as otherwise provided under this Act a person shall not operate a public electronic communications service or network or provide voice telephony service without a license granted by the Authority,” the NCA quoted.
The NCA has therefore cautioned the general public against patronising equipment or service purported to be from Starlink.
“Persons engaging in the sale or operations of the service are also directed to cease and desist immediately,” it stated.
It assured the general public that it will continue to ensure fair participation and competition in the market to safeguard its licensees and consumers.
Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by American aerospace company SpaceX, providing coverage to over 60 countries. It also aims for global mobile phone service after 2023.
