Award-winning filmmaker and director Nicholas Tetteh Nartey, popularly known as Big Ghun, has advised Ghanaian filmmakers to expand their creativity and target the global market instead of limiting their content to only "Ghanaians."
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, Big Ghun emphasized that the absence of Ghanaian filmmakers and directors on global platforms is concerning.
He added that the focus on creating content solely for local consumption has hindered the growth of many filmmakers in the industry.
Big Ghun also pointed out that Ghanaian filmmakers tend to resist learning new things and improving their craft.
"I wish there were other Ghanaians winning on these platforms as well. There should be no distinction between the Ghanaian standard, the Nigerian standard, and the world standard," he said.
Big Ghun recently received the MTF Filmmaker award at the AMVCA 2023 in Nigeria for his movie "LEAKED." After being nominated for the award last year and this year, Emmanuel Nartey was the only Ghanaian to win an award this year. He has now become an official member of the Nigerian Film Guild.
Winning this award has been a dream come true for Big Ghun. He expressed his ambition to participate in prestigious events such as the Oscars and Cannes in the future.
"My aim is to go to the Oscars and Cannes after winning this award," he stated.
