The New Patriotic Party has decided to demonstrate against the current power crisis tomorrow. Indeed while it is their right to embark on such a venture, I am of no doubt it is a deceptive action. What they are doing is to engage in electioneering campaign under the pretext of a demonstration.
In fact, to describe the current situation as a crisis is an understatement and a very charitable one and indeed the incompetence of the NDC must be trumpeted. But this action of the NPP is nothing short of hypocrisy, opportunistic, and pretentious. I will not even remind them that while in Office we experienced a similar situation because that will be cheap politicking.
I have listened to NPP party members, and some sympathizers commenting on the dire power situation and I tend to wonder if the NPP are not elated by our situation. Some of their comments make you wonder if the NPP really understand what being PATRIOTIC means. For their sake, in simple terms, being patriotic means loving and being loyal to your country. But for the NPP it means “POWER FOR NPP”.
I can’t comprehend what is wrong with asking for alternatives from the largest opposition party. Can they not learn from the Progressive People’s Party who not only talk but give practical alternatives such as in our advocacy for separation of powers, effective decentralization, and the likes? After all, if their proposed solutions work isn’t it to the benefit of ALL GHANAIANS. In any case has not the NPP been telling all of us that they seek the betterment of Ghanaians and Ghana as a whole? I mean come on!
From where I sit, they take offence to being asked of alternatives because JUST LIKE THEIR COUSINS THE NDC, THEY HAVE NO ALTERNATIVES to the power crisis.
The NPP wants to ride on the frustrations of Ghanaians and posit as though they have better solutions. IGNORE THEM BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING.
